There is a prediction that the economy will slowly claw its way back next year.
That is from the Employers Manufacturing Association, which is disregarding suggestions that our recovery will be quick.
An end of year survey of its members found 60% of business were doing alright, while another 20% said things were picking up.
The Association's Employment Services Manager David Lowe says that is not bad, but not that great either.
He says there is a huge number of smaller businesses which will still struggle for much of next year.
There is also a prediction that if the Government plays its cards right business should be back to usual by this time next year.
The Employers Manufacturing Association says industries which are not exposed to the fluctuating New Zealand dollar, such as IT, will be much quicker to recover than those which are.
Lowe says the economy is still very fragile and it would not take much to derail it.
He believes the recovery will be a case of slowly but surely.
