After an 18 year battle, Foodstuffs has won the right to finish building a Pak'nSave supermarket on Auckland's North Shore.
The prime slice of land on Wairau Road was bought by Foodstuffs nearly 20 years ago, but over the last decade New Zealand's two biggest supermarket operators have been battling over it.
In January the North Shore and Auckland Regional Councils said Foodstuffs could build the Pak n Save supermarket, but Progressive Enterprises went back to the Environment Court to try and block the construction from being completed.
But the Environment Court has ruled in favour of Foodstuffs and upheld the granting of resource consents for the supermarket.
Foodstuffs Managing Director Tony Carter says the company is delighted with the decision and they would like to opent he store as soon as possible.
The Court's decision found that there was a clear consensus that the introduction of a competitor would be a good thing for consumers.
