NZL has submitted to Port of Tauranga details of its proposed terminal operation at Sulphur Point.

The company operated a containter terminal at Sulphur Points before 2004, and says it is exercising its right to re-establish the terminal.

NZL director Ken Harris says exporters and port users would benefit from the increased competition the terminal would bring.

"Tauranga's reputation has been built by the hard work and efficiency of competing companies and the re-establishment of the NZL terminal will be good for all," he says.

Under its proposal, the terminal would be operational early next year.
