The global recession has hammered the fortunes of some of our richest people.
The annual National Business Review rich list reveals collective losses of around $6 billion.
"Overall the sense is, just like the rest of the globalised developed world, we've taken a big hit," says TVNZ business reporter, Corin Dann.
Even so, according to the NBR, our richest still have plenty of noughts after their name.
New Zealand's richest person is entrepeneur Graeme Hart, whose fortune has dipped around $500 million to $5.5 billion.
The Todd family is in second place, followed by Malta based Eamon Cleary's $3 billion fortune.
Investors Christopher and Richard Chandler round out the top five.
They're followed by Lynette Erceg, widow of liquor industry giant Michael, the Goodman family, Stephen Jennings, liquor baron Douglas Myers and Sir Michael Fay and David Richwhite.
Despite ONE News' best efforts, New Zealand's richlisters won't talk publicly about their wealth. Even the Prime Minister would not comment about his place on the list. His $50 million brings him in near the bottom, at 146th place
