New Zealand has come near the top of a global consumer confidence ranking.
The latest Nielsen Global Consumer Confidence Index ranks New Zealand the eighth most confident country out of 54 surveyed.
Most core markets around the world showed some improvement from June to October, but the most rapid recovery in confidence was seen in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Brazil.
Consumer sentiment here was up 10 points in the six months to October.
The Nielsen Company New Zealand spokesman Rob Clark says it signifies a major turning point for the country.
He says it shows the tide has turned and our consumer sentiment has shifted gears from recession to recovery.
