New Zealanders with General Motors vehicles can drive easy despite the US company declaring bankruptcy.

Motoring commentators say the move will not affect the supply of GM cars and car parts in New Zealand.

"It'll have absolutely no effect at all, mainly because the sourcing of GM product in New Zealand is courtesy of Holden, and Holden being a whole-owned Australian company is not affected by anything to do with the chapter 11 proceedings," says Fairfax NZ motoring editor Dave Moore.

Moore says makes and models of GM vehicles on the road will stay roughly the same but there will be more smaller, fuel efficient cars coming off the production line.
