Online accounting system company Xero Ltd says it now has more than 12,000 paying customers
compared with 2,200 customers as at September 30, 2008.

The company said in July that it had exceeded the 10,000 customer milestone. Break-even was around 30,000 customers.

The company reported a $6.751 million loss in the year to March 31.

Xero shares rose 6 cents to $1.40 on Thursday after the company released an update on its business.

The company's interim report will be released in early November.

Xero says it is pleased that the strong customer acquisition experienced at the March 31 year-end, continued beyond the seasonal peak.

Xero continues to execute its plans and is well positioned for growth in coming years.
