A Mainzeal project manager has won the New Zealand Institute of Building/GIB Award for Excellence for projects under $5 million.
Derek Bennett from Waikato was specifically recognised for his outstanding achievement in delivering the challenging Claudelands Exhibition Halls construction project in Hamilton.
Mainzeal constructed the Exhibition Hall with a construction period of just 77 working days.
Finlay Irwin, Mainzeal Waikato/Bay of Plenty Manager, credits the success of the Claudelands Exhibition Halls project to Bennett's leadership.
"With only 77 working days to complete the exhibition hall project, Derek was entirely focused on maximising every hour available during the design and construction timeframe. Many other firms in the industry thought the project couldn't be done in the timeframe allotted, but Derek made it happen on time and under budget," Irwin said.
"Mainzeal was awarded the contract for fit-out on top of the Exhibition Hall base build. This additional contract was a direct result of Derek's ability to interact positively with the client and assure them Mainzeal could meet critical - even seemingly impossible - deadlines," Irwin said.
