Jetstar has apologised to furious passengers after leaving them stranded on a plane on the Bangkok airport runway for more than three hours.

Two hundred and fifty-five passengers waited without air conditioning as engineers repaired a faulty hydraulic pump.

Passengers say conditions on board were stifling and some complained food and drink was not easily accessible. Australian newspaper The Age reported that economy class passengers were offered food and beverages while they waited, but were asked to pay for them.

Jetstar says it decided to repair the plane while passengers were on board as the flight would likely have been further delayed if it had returned to the terminal and offloaded passengers.

Jetstar has given all affected passengers vouchers - $AU50 for economy passengers and $AU100 for StarClass passengers.
