The government says there has been a high level of interest from parties wanting to get involved in its ultra fast broadband plan.
The government is looking for partners to co-invest in the infrastructure, deployment and operation of its $1.5 billion broadband plan.
Under the plan, ultra fast broadband services will be rolled out to 75% of New Zealanders within 10 years.
Communications and Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce says 38 groups have lodged expressions of interest including several "significant" international players.
He says the government is now getting close to identifying the private sector partners who will build the infrastructure and get the roll-out underway.
The 38 groups now have until January 28 next year to lodge their
full proposals.
