There are claims that workers are missing out on income after being quarantined because of exposure to H1N1 flu while at work.

Five EPMU members have been quarantined following work place exposure to swine flu.

The union says employers should be held responsible because they are not being paid what they would have been if they were at work.

"There is no argument that in these cases the contact is related to their employment and if you think about it in the regrettable case that this thing starts to expand a lot more, these sort of cases could be wider," says Bill Newson, Engineering, Print and Manufacturers Union.

The EPMU represents several thousand kiwis working in industries with a high risk of swine flu exposure.
