A number of banks are offering financial assistance to people affected by the Canterbury earthquake.
Kiwibank has established a package for customers with a home loan or business banking customers who live in Canterbury and have been affected by the quake.
The bank's Canterbury Quake Care Package includes a three month repayment holiday on loans, including business banking loans. A $1,000 overdraft or increase of $1,000 to existing personal overdrafts or revolving credit facility is also in the package.
Chief executive Paul Brock said it was important to provide practical support for people so they had easy access to money.
Home Loan customers who want access to Kiwibank's Canterbury Quake Care Package should phone 0800 222 224.
Westpac Bank and ANZ are also offering customers relief such as deferral of home loan repayments, or waiving fees.
Westpac's website said anyone who needs an emergency overdraft or to break their term deposits should contact the bank on 0800 500 770, from 7am to 11pm.
Westpac is also setting aside a $1 billion loan pool to help in the rebuilding of the city devastated by the quake.
ANZ and The National Bank will suspend repayments on all loans for three months, waive fees associated with restructuring business loans considered necessary due to earthquake impacts, waive early withdrawal costs for term deposits and consider temporary adjustments to lending limits.
ANZ customers wanting information should call 0800 269 296, and National Bank customers should call 0800 18 18 18.
ANZ and BNZ Banks are donating $1 million to the proposed fund.
