The total value of electronic card transactions in October rose a marginal 0.2% on last month's figures , according to Statistics New Zealand.

The industries with the largest increases were automotive fuel retailing, which rose 1.7%; non-retail, which includes services such as travel and health (up 0.8%); and durables, which includes furniture, hardware, and appliance retailing (up 0.5%).

Statistics New Zealand says the value of electronic card transactions in retail was flat, down 0.2%, while core retail, which does not include motor vehicle related industries, was down 0.4%

The decline in both was largely driven by the consumables industry which includes food and liquor.

Statistics New Zealand says the trend for total transactions has been rising at about 0.4% a month.
