A local wool marketer has teamed up with the world largest carpet retailer to break into the lucrative United States' carpet market.

Elders Rural Holdings has launched Wool Marketing Enterprises and secured an agreement with retail carpet giant CCA Global Partners.

Managing Director Stuart Chapman says the aim is to drive the increase in demand and profitability of New Zealand wool.

He says they are working on developing a luxury wool carpet brand that will be sold in stores across the United States, made with New Zealand strong wool.

Chapman says research shows a significant consumer trend towards sustainable and natural carpets at the top end of the market.

The agreement is positive news for the wool industry which has seen prices soften.
