Synovate call centre employees strike over pay offer - Source: ONE News

Auckland call centre workers remain locked out after refusing to accept a 20 cents an hour pay increase.

More than 30 Synovate employees who do market research for the ASB and the Ministry of Social Development are demanding a 50 cent rise.

Unite spokesman Matt McCarten says it is a disgrace that the workers are being paid the same as young people in a hamburger bar.

But managing director Ian Mills says the workers should be thankful they have got a job. He says about 600 market research jobs have been lost in New Zealand over the past 18 months and the company is working hard to make sure any jobs that are left stay in New Zealand and don't go overseas.

And the company disputes claims Australian call centre staff are getting paid more and are on $22 an hour.
