An innovative Kiwi website that matches homeowners with qualified tradespeople is booming despite the downturn in the construction industry.

A little over a year ago, NZI Business spoke to Mark Dickson from Builderscrack to profile the website which allows people to get a variety of quotes, read reviews and then rate tradespeople for their home renovations and repairs.

Today, Dickson said that while the economy as a whole, and the construction industry in particular has struggled, Builderscrack has grown rapidly.

Over 5,000 jobs have been posted, several thousand users have joined, and well over $5 million worth of renovation and repair work has been completed through the site.

Homeowners post the details of the work they need done once, and then multiple tradespeople express an interest, and quote. Tradespeople are rated by customers who are verified to have used them through the site so customers can select tradespeople based on genuine ratings and price.

Dickson said the website team has not stood still as the work has rolled in. New features have been added which incentivise tradespeople to communicate in a professional and timely manner and the reviews process has been upgraded, encouraging over 5,000 reviews to be posted.

Ninety-nine percent of customers state that they had a positive experience with Builderscrack , with tradespeople rated 3.7 out of 4 on average for workmanship, and 3.4 out of 4 on average for communications.

Builderscrack has tripled their advertising budget from this time last year but their biggest source of customers remains referrals from other happy customers and all three company directors make sure they still read every feedback comment written.
