Kiwi kids are being reminded that "slow and steady wins the race" can also be applied to financial matters.

Northland financial advisor Lucas Remmerswaal has created a children's book based on the habits and principles of the world's third richest man, Warren Buffett.

Remmerswaal said his e-book uses the age-old fable of the tortoise and the hare in a very modern context.

Tortoise Buffett and Trader Hare features a six-year old who becomes a millionaire and then a billionaire.

The advisor said he felt inspired to create it after the string of high-profile finance company collapses.

"All the finance companies falling over like dominoes, I felt the pain of 120 retired investors. They shared their pain with me and I felt burdened by it and I kept asking myself, what am I going to do about this?" Remmerswaal said.

He went all the way to Nebraska, America to get the blessing of Buffet, the so-called Oracle of Omaha.

That happened at a chance encounter in a steakhouse, Remmerswaal said.

"I said, look I've spent the last 12 months writing these books about your habits and he joked straight back, I hope it's not my bad habits."

Buffett has made a fortune through wise investing and is well-known for his philanthropy and mantra of "when people are greedy, be fearful; when others are fearful, be greedy" in relation to stock market decisions.

The book is aimed at school age children and was deliberately made as an e-book due to their phenomenal growth in popularity.
