Making payments through Facebook is the latest addition to ASB's mobile banking application.
From mid-July, ASB mobile users will be able to pay Facebook friends without a bank account number, regardless of whether they are an ASB customer or not.
ASB's Anna Curzon said the bank made the move because New Zealanders are spending an increasing amount of time on Facebook.
"The next step in this evolution is being able to seamlessly make payments from their smartphone, using Facebook as a channel," she said.
"We believe Facebook payments will be a popular addition to the range of payment options already available on ASB Mobile which include payments by mobile numbers and email addresses."
Curzon said the application will also be able to be downloaded onto more than one device for customers who want the app on their cellphone as well as their tablet.
