A local candidate vying for Auckland's Super City council is hoping for better council management after the discovery of a forgotten-about $3 million fund.
The money has been tucked away over the last 30 years, collected from developers who paid into a fund instead of making parking provisions in their developments.
Orakei ward candidate Cameron Brewer, the self-styled mayor of Newmarket, says it is unbelievable the parking department at the Auckland City Council never knew about such a huge stash of cash.
The council has decided to spend the money on increasing the size of the Clonbern Road carpark in Remuera.
But Brewer is criticising that decision, saying the money should be spent in the areas in which it was collected.
