An Auckland cafe has been been crowned the top eatery in the country in the inaugural NZ Cafe of the Year competition.
Mairangi Bay's Paper Moon received hundreds of votes in the nomination stage of the competition.
Organised by the The Restaurant Association of New Zealand, Paper Moon also took out the prize for best cafe in the Upper North Island.
Other regional winners include, Bosco Cafe in Te Kuiti, Mcfarlanes Caffe in Inglewood, Taranaki, ARTISAN by Rangiora Bakery in Rangiora, and The Roost Café in Oamaru.
As part of the prize, Paper Moon will feature its famous Beans and Bacon dish on TVNZ's Food in a Minute segment later this month.
Chief judge Kerry Tyack said Paper Moon has a lively atmosphere, exceptional service and "a comprehensively mouth-watering menu".
Tyack said this package provided a memorable experience regardless of whether you are a regular from the local community or a travelling guest.
Around 400 cafes entered and more than 24,000 votes were lodged by the public.
