A large block of land in central Auckland has been sold for an undisclosed sum to business interests associated with Tournament Car Parking.
The 2.891 hectare site - which has frontage onto Cook, Nelson, Wellesley and Sale Streets - is one of the largest remaining underdeveloped freehold land holdings in the Auckland CBD.
New Zealand-owned Tournament Car Parking has been managing car parks for 13 years and currently owns or operates 76 car parks in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.
The hillside location was previously owned by Auckland-based property developer Doug Rikard-Bell and his company R L Investments No 2. The property was originally Auckland City Council's works department depot and many of the depot's former buildings remain on the site.
Bayleys Real Estate launched an extensive international marketing campaign to sell the site and eight tenders were received by the December deadline.
The site encompasses four titles, which were for sale individually or collectively.
Tournament Parking will continue to retain car parking on the site and plans to refurbish the existing depot buildings while creating new commercial spaces.
