Advertising revenue across all main media dropped slightly last year, according to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
It says revenue was $2.045 billion to the end of December, in comparison to the 2008 total of $2.317 billion and the lowest level since 2004.
The turnover includes data from newspapers, television, radio, magazines, outdoor, cinema, addressed mail, unaddressed mail and interactive media.
The biggest decline was seen in newspaper ads which dropped to $623 million from $760 million a year earlier, while television fell $77 million to $570 million.
The only sector to rise was interactive which went from $193 million in 2008 to $214 million last year.
