Nearly $3 billion will be spent on the State Highway network through New Zealand over the next three years.
This follows the $438m infrastructure package announced in February this year, which included $142.5m for transport.
"Our economy relies on the State Highway network - when traffic isn't moving, neither is the country," says Transport minister Steven Joyce.
Around $10 billion is expected to be spent over the next 10 years.
Priority projects include seven roads designated as of national significance, including the completion of the controversial Auckland western ring route.
Other routes include:
Puhoi to Wellsford - SH 1
Auckland Victoria Park bottleneck - SH1
Waikato Expressway - SH1
Taurange Eastern Corridor - SH2
Wellington Northern Corridor (Levin to Wellington) - SH1
Christchurch motorway projects.
These are in addition to the five major transport projects were fast-tracked under the infrastructure package, which included the Kopu bridge near Thames and work on the Rimutaka Hill Road.
