A taxpaying couple say they are not expecting much from the Budget, as they usually get very little from it.

Terry and Robyn Riding are professionals who pay the maximum tax rate - but belong to a group classified as "DINKS" - a double income couple - with no kids.

Terry Riding says he cannot even think of a time when the Budget actually had something that would benefit him and his partner.

The Ridings have private health insurance and a super scheme but do not have much faith in the Budget process.

"They tend to say what they're going to do, then they don't carry it through," says Robin.

Recent Labour budgets have all been about increased spending on health and education and the working for families' package.

When the 2006 Budget was announced, Finance Minister Michael Cullen said about 350,000 families would gain from the targeted tax relief.

But the Ridings see none of that and don't think their taxes are put to good use and say they really would like to see more money spent on hospitals and education.

Like most people, the Ridings are feeling the pinch as living costs rise and would like promised tax cuts - but don't want them drip fed.

"Three years is just far too long for them to come into effect, they need to come into effect now," says Robin.

They say they will not be holding their breath for any handouts on Thursday when the Budget is announced.
