We touched down in Timaru following a fantastic show in
Oamaru on Monday , very tired but ready for another great
day.
I had a mild panic attack at the hotel when I couldnt start my
lap-top, and I wasnt betting that at 6pm on a Monday night there
would be many places still open. So my producer Alison and I hit
the streets, trawling for anywhere that had a technician-type to
fix my dead computer. Alison managed to talk a local repairman into
re-opening his shop and taking a look. Ten minutes later we both
discovered that, truth be told, I simply hadnt plugged the thing in
properly! So we left somewhat red-faced, but glad that I could
still write the weather in the morning.
The month of November is definitely a great time to be in Timaru.
We set up on the piazza for the morning. I was stoked we had a good
crowd even from 6.30am! The spot was perfect, we could see the main
street, the port, Caroline Bay, the carnival, and the gorgeous
sunrise.
Being the same day as the Melbourne Cup, it was very timely that
the crew from the Racecourse headed down with their marquette of
Phar Lap. Before the end of the month theyll have a replica
life-size version of the famous horse at the course.
We also managed to get right down into the rose garden for one of
the crosses, to celebrate the Festival of Roses at the end of the
month. Not only that, but we had the models from the Hat and Hair
Art Awards there, wearing their stunning creations from last years
event.
But the most scrumptious part of the morning was indulging in all
the foods of the region that had been set up. We had quite the
banquet, from Mays mince pies from Timaru, Barker's jams and
chutneys from Geraldine, and Pauls favourite, Denheath custard
squares from Pleasant Point.
All in all, another brilliant day. Now were continuing our journey
northward next stop Ashburton.
If thats near your neck of the woods then come down and grab a cup
of coffee from the
McCafe Cruiser love to see you there.
