By Tamati Coffey on the road from Ashburton
Source: Breakfast
Right now I'm in the passenger seat, typing as we drive away
from the small farming town of Ashburton.
What a turnout, it was the biggest yet. Instead of making Ashburton
into something that it wasn't, we embraced the farming nature of
the town - tractors, farmers, animals, sheep, calves, ploughs,
gumboots, and there was the odd bit of sheep dung as well!
The
McCafe Winnebago Cruiser was pretty visible from where we
parked outside the clocktower - everybody knew we were in
town.
The highlight of the morning was showing up at 6am and finding that
there were four people already there to see us, and they'd been
there for an hour.
Of course the people that get there early - always get on TV first
- it's kind of my rule. We dished out more McCafe coffees than you
could shake a stick at, and the people loved us for it. I really
think that Paul and Pippa got into it today as well.
Ashburton's a great small town, yet despite being a small town it
has got this amazing place to eat, called Lake Hood. Go there, and
say "hi" to the Scottish waiter for me!
Akaroa here we come!
