Schedule of events

The inaugural ceremony is from 5:30am to 6:30am NZT, with Obama scheduled to be sworn in at 6am.

Obama will take the oath of office on Capitol Hill: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

After taking the oath, President Barack Obama will give his inaugural address at 6:05am, speaking to the his nation and the world as President for the first time.

His speech will be followed by a poem from Elizabeth Alexander, a benediction by The Reverend Dr Joseph E Lowery, and the National Anthem that will be sung the The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters".
During the inauguration there will also be an invocation by Pastor Rick Warren, musical selections from Aretha Franklin, Itzak Perlman and Yo Yo Ma.
