Allen Iverson has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Memphis Grizzlies while the NBA team plays down rumours he may retire.
Iverson has been frustrated this season with his bench role, making it loud and clear that he wants to be the starting point guard.
Along with the stress of a family issue, many are tipping Iverson to hang up his shoes for good.
But Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley told ESPN there was no indication the 34-year-old wanted to retire, saying that "if he was going to retire, he'd tell me first."
"I expect him to come back. If he does retire, I'll be tremendously disappointed. I feel bad because I don't think that's the way he should go out."
Iverson has played three games since returning from a hamstring injury, averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 assists and 22.3 minutes.
