Frustrated Breakers star Kirk Penney is set to miss at least another week of action with a lingering back injury.
Last season's league MVP has already missed four games this season with torn discs and is poised to miss two more this week.
Penney told ONE News on Tuesday his back is still causing him significant pain and is taking longer than expected to respond to rehab.
He confirmed he will miss Thursday night's home game against the Gold Coast Blaze as well as the weekend's away fixture against the Perth Wildcats.
Penney was able to take some shots at the basket at training but is still a little stiff and awkward with his movements.
Hopes were raised last week with the Breakers entertaining the possibility of Penney playing against Townsville but later in the week the sharp-shooter went downhill and his back tightened up again.
Things haven't improved significantly since then.
"The back is still a bit sore. Just trying to do rehab on it and monitoring it making sure there are no more setbacks," Penney said.
"I won't be able to play against the Gold Coast and there's no way I'll be able to travel to Perth.
"It's one of those things I'll have to watch from here, it's gonna be horrible again but it's part of it and I need to get healthy."
While he can move relatively freely while upright, Penney's biggest problems come when he tries to bend and turn.
That means he can't even travel with the team to Perth as there's no way he could endure the long-haul flight in a seated position.
But there's no shortage of motivation for Penney, who will continue to chip away at his gruelling rehab schedule back at home.
"I'm shocking at resting which I've once again seen today. I need to take it easy, it's getting there it's just a slow process and it takes time."
