Kirk Penney may return for the Breakers as early as this Thursday night.
Penney was released from his Breakers contract after being offered a trial with the San Antonio Spurs on the back of top drawer performances for New Zealand at the world championships in Turkey last month.
However the 29-year old Shooting Guard was released from the Spurs' veterans camp after playing only 16 minutes in a pre-season match , effectively ending his dream to snare an NBA contract.
Breakers general manager Richard Clarke says Penney is just days away from rejoining the Breakers and could play in their home match against the Melbourne Tigers on Thursday night.
The Breakers have started their ANBL campaign strongly winning their first two matches.
