Shooting guard Kirk Penney is improving every day and was a welcome sight at Breakers training on Tuesday, shooting hoops and moving a little more freely around the Atlas Place gym.

But he remains an unlikely starter on Thursday night in the clash with the Townsville Crocodiles and the hottest player in the league, Corey 'Homicide' Williams.

Penney is recovering from a back injury suffered a fortnight ago, the Tall Black shooting guard suffering two annular disc tears to his lower back.

That recovery is expected to take four weeks in total but Penney admits to being ahead of schedule.

"I'm feeling great, a little better every day and with every workout but we can't afford to rush this. The irony is I am most comfortable when on court, moving and shooting. The trouble starts when I try to sit down or bend at the waist, that still brings on some pain and my movement is restricted. It is hard to put a timeline on this but we are hoping for Thursday week in the home game against the 36ers."

Penney will train again with the team on Wednesday morning at the North Shore Events Centre and continue to receive physiotherapy and massage to further heal the injury ahead of his team mates game against the in-form Crocodiles on Thursday night at the North Shore Events Centre.

Meantime the task in front of the Breakers was put in perspective with Corey Williams winning back to back ANBL Player of the Week awards.

Williams, who also took the Round Three weekly honours, exploded for 37 points as well as adding seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in the Crocs' 101-91 Round Four victory over the Gold Coast Blaze on Friday night at 'The Swamp' in Townsville.

Williams went a scorching 13-of-18 from the field (72%) and 11-of-14 from the free throw stripe (79%) as he almost single handedly drove the Crocs to victory, a 3-2 record and second position on the ANBL ladder.
