Championship winning Boston Celtics forward Glen 'Big Baby' Davis wants to play in the NFL after he's done with basketball.

The 6-foot-9 290 pounder played both basketball and American football in high school but eventually threw in the boots after receiving a scholarship to LSU.

But the big man has told ESPN The Magazine that he doesn't feel his football days are over.

"When I become an All-Star in the NBA, when I become a great player in the NBA, then I'll try football. One of my dreams has always been to play football," he said.

Davis excelled at defensive end, defensive tackle and tailback in high school.

Now in his third season with the Celtics, Davis made his presence felt in the playoffs last year where he averaged 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game filling in for injured Kevin Garnett.

"I definitely could have made it to the NFL. One of my dreams has always been to play football.

"I will try it," said Davis, who is sidelined for six weeks with a broken thumb he suffered in a punch-up.

Davis signed a two-year $US6 million contract with the Celtics in August.
