Aussie sharp-shooter John Rillie looks set to stay with the Breakers for the rest of the season.
Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis has revealed that Rillie was initially signed on a one-month contract as cover for injured Kirk Penney.
So with Penney hoped to be back for Thursday night's home clash with the Cairns Taipans, Lemanis has a decision to ponder.
But with the positive impact Rillie has already had on his team-mates, it seems likely they will want him to stick around until the end of the season.
"I've been honest with John about this - we've signed him for a month and we're making the assessment on the fly," Lemanis said following Friday's win over the Crocs.
"We have Kirk coming back hopefully sooner rather than later and the assessment is 'are we good enough with both Kirk and John in the line-up?'
"I'm hoping yes, that's my mindset."
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old veteran told media how much he enjoyed his return to Townsville - albeit in an opposition jersey.
The local hero had been wary about how his former home crowd would receive him.
"I really didn't know what to expect when I went out there but the support from the fans was unbelievable," Rillie said.
"As I've always said, Townsville is home for us. I guess (the crowd support) is respect so it's just sensational."
