Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard was fined $15,000 (NZ$20,245) on Wednesday for criticising referees on his personal blog, the NBA announced.

Howard made the comments after his team's 85-80 loss at Detroit on November 3, a game in which he scored just eight points before being fouled out.

Orlando reached the NBA championship finals last season, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers.

They are currently 6-2 this season despite battling injuries and suspension.
