About Army Wives
The cast of Army Wives include Roxy LeBlanc, a former bar-worker whose army husband proposed to her after only knowing her for four days; Claudia Joy Holden, the strong and respected wife of a Colonel; Roland Burton, who is a rare sight - a supportive, civilian husband with his own career as a psychiatrist, who tries to help his wife, Lieutenant Colonel Joan Burton, come to terms with her recent tour to Iraq; Denise, who harbours a shocking secret; and Pamela Moran and her husband Chase, who are struggling financially, which leads to Pamela becoming a paid surrogate mother, so she can contribute to the household while her husband rises up the army ranks.
All five women meet for the first time in the ladies room during a special officer's dinner. All sorts of things are revealed in that quick encounter: Claudia Joy questions Denise about her bruises and Roxy, trying to fix a rip in her dress, hears all the dirt; Joan and Roland are almost caught having sex in one of the stalls and the very pregnant Pamela shows up, prompting suspicious glares from Claudia Joy and Denise.
Their next meeting is at a tea hosted by Claudia Joy at her
home. As everyone is still being evaluated as to their worthiness
to be included in the Army wives club, suspicions are still high.
Everything is going well, if not tense, when Pamela's water breaks
and she finds herself on the floor of Claudia Joy's bathroom. Soon
after, Claudia Joy, Denise, who used to be a nurse, Roxy and
Roland, an unofficial member of the wives' tea, are piled in
Roland's car to the hospital. But Pamela's labor is progressing too
quickly to get there in time, so Roxy has the unconventional idea
to deliver the baby at the bar - it's closed and there are
certainly enough towels and hot water. Finally, after much pushing
and a swig or two of Vodka to ease the pain, two healthy, black
babies are delivered.
Exhausted, all of them bask in the glow of the cementing of their
new relationship.
