Lomas sailed the 1997-98 Whitbread with Grant Dalton and has done three America's Cup campaigns with New Zealand teams (2000, 2003 and 2007).

A regular competitor on the international grand prix, match-racing circuits and the Med Cup TP52 circuits. Lomas took a leading organisational role, as well as sailing, in the team's successful 2009 and 2010 MedCup campaign and was bowman for the Louis Vuitton Trophy regattas.

With team-mates Winston Macfarlane and Dean Barker, he raced in the last regatta for 2010 of the Extreme 40 catamaran circuit, the team's first foray into top-level, multi-hull racing.
