23:27 - FULL TIME  -  All Whites 1 (Killen 15")  Australia 2 (Vidosci 57", Holman 90+4")

All Whites hearts have been broken as they get caught sleeping, allowing Australia's Brett Holman to cooly slot the ball past Mark Paston, scoring with the last kick of the game.

Ryan Nelsen looks sick as Australia do a victory lap around the MCG, but the All Whites skipper should not be too disheartened by the result as the Kiwis showed real grit and determination from the first whistle, showing that New Zealand might not be as much of an easy push over as many might think.

23:26 - GOAL! All Whites 1 Australia 2 (Brett Holman 90+4")

23:50 - There is a late chance for Australia as Boyens gives away a corner - but New Zealand successfully deal with the threat.

23:15 - New Zealand get a corner, taken by Simon Elliot but he fails to make the most of it. Their may be just five minutes of normal time remaining but the Kiwis are not giving up without a fight.

23:09 -  There is another change as    Socceroos goalscorer Dario Vidosci makes way for 18-year-old Australia bolter Tommy Oar.

23:01 - Looks like I spoke to soon as New Zealand come close to going 2-1 up. A Brillant ball from Tommy Smith finds Rory Fallon, but the striker heads straight to Australia keeper Brett Jones.

Fallon should of scored that one and will be kicking himself!

22:57 - New Zealand seem to be losing their way now as Australia really hit their stride to play the neat attacking football that was missing in the first half.

There has been yet another change for the All Whites with goalscorer Chris Killen being replaced by Chris Wood.

22:50 - Well it all seemed too good to be true for the All Whites as they allowed Australia's play to build. Chris Killen fails to clear the ball in the All Whites penalty area and it was Vidosci who capitalised on the mistake to blast the ball past Paston.

Meanwhile, the All Whites have made another change with Tony Lochhead coming off and 20-year-old Ipswich defender Tommy Smith (without a Y) comes on.

22:48 - GOAL! All Whites 1 Australia 1 (Dario Vidosci 57")

22:45 - Some better play from Australia now as Mark Milligan fires a ball towards the All Whites net, but he shoots just wide. There tempo slowed early after the half-time break, but Australia are starting to keep more possession as the tempo builds again.

22:43 - The Socceroos defence falls asleep again as Fallon easily gets on the end of the ball, only for the Plymouth Argile striker to sky it.

22:42 - Another change for the All Whites as veteran Ivan Viceleich, who looks like he may have picked up a slight knock, goes off and Andy Boyens comes on.

22:28 -  The second half is underway and Ricki Herbert has made just one change to the side with Michael McGlinchey coming on for Tim Brown. Australia have also made a few changes with Federici, Grella and Tim Cahill coming off.

22:19 - Well it is half time at the MCG and the All Whites take a much deserved lead against a tired and somewhat uninspired Socceroos into the break. It has been a great showing from the Kiwis but expect plenty of changes after the break.

22:15 - Another blow for the All Whites as vice captain Tim Brown is looking to be struggling after landing funny on his arm - but he plays on, for now.

22:09 - Australia have their best chance of the first half as Mark Bresciano tries to capitalise with a set piece.

It lands to a Carney, who then passes it to Scott McDonald but the ball is the driven away by Paston, who, although is on the injury comeback trail is having a fine game.

22:06 - All has gone quiet at the MCG as the fans come to grips with what has just happened. Young new All White Winston Reid comes on for the injured Bertos, making his first appearance for the national side.

22:00 - Just moments later Bertos goes down after a late Tim Cahill challenge. The midfielder leaves his leg high and Bertos goes into the air as he tries to escape the tackle. Cahill recieves a yellow and Bertos is stretchered off in agony, leaving the Kiwis feeling sick! Fingers crossed the Wellington Phoenix star is ok for the World Cup!

21:59 - Tense moments for the All Whites as Leo Bertos is the victim of a late Vince Grella challenge. Bertos goes down as Grella's studs scrape into his leg - Grella recieves a yellow (should of been red!) and Bertos, who gets back up, is lucky not to have a broken leg.

21:56 - Another chance for Chris Killen as Viceleich heads the ball towards the Socceroos net, but Killen kicks it just past the goal, as Australia struggle to deal with the All Whites assault.

21:52 - Craig Moore is pulled up for knocking down Rory Fallon - Leo Bertos steps up to take the free kick but hits it too low. Australia are looking a little worried now, and New Zealand need to take advantage.

21:49 - The All Whites are 1-0 up after just 16 minutes and it is Chris Killen who gets on the end of a brilliant Simon Elliot ball to chip it past Australia keeper Adam Federici. Great stuff from the visitors!

21:48 - GOAL! All Whites 1 Australia 0 (Chris Killen 15")

21:46 - Sigmund is pulled up for fouling Carney down - another free kick for Australia - Paston expertly punches the ball away - but it lands to Vince Grella who blasts it over the cross bar

21:43 - Chance for the All Whites as Bertos' gets a powerful kick into the box - it's headed by Rory Fallon and lands at the feet of Tim Brown who fires it just outside the far post - blinding chance for the Kiwis - Brown could be ruing that one!

21:40 - Australia get a free-kick after Leo Bertos' is pulled up for some shirt tugging on David Carney - Carney takes the kick which almost lands to Tim Cahill, someone you definately don't want to be giving space to in the box - Australia are starting to really press forward now.

21:37 -  The All Whites have enjoyed some early possession in the midfield, but are failing to do much with it so far. Both sides look to be easing themselves into the game

21:32 - And we have kick off in this highly anticipated match, with Australia getting an early throw-in. Lucas Neill does the honours but Mark Paston gets a quick hand to it.

21:25 - Both sides are onto the pitch at the MCG as the national anthem is being sung and the White Noise fly their flags - some very serious looks on the faces of the All Whites...friendly?! Your avin a laugh!

21:00 - While Ricki Herbet has almost exclusively kept the faith with the team that defeated Bahrain 1-0 to reach the World Cup in emphatic fashion in November, Australia coach Pim Verbeek has gone for a more experimental line-up.

Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici will make his Socceroos debut as No.1 shot-stopper Mark Schwarzer's replacement, while other first-choice stars like Harry Kewell, Brett Emerton, Luke Wilkshire, Scott Chipperfield and Josh Kennedy all miss the clash because of injury concerns, or because they are being rested.

But one player who does get the go-ahead is Everton ace Tim Cahill, who will play alongside Dario Vidosci in midfield.

Rain is falling on a cold and wet day in Melbourne, and a crowd of around 50,000 upwards is expected to attend the farewell friendly.
