From the fast becoming famous Whitelock family, Sam is one of four
brothers who has represented New Zealand at under-19 or under-20
level and he follows in the footsteps of his older brother George,
who made his All Blacks debut in 2009. This particular Whitelock is
a lock forward, with sound ball-winning skills, but it is huge
workrate around the field which has caught the eye in the part of
his career. In 2011 he established himself as a starting lock in
the victorious 2011 World Cup winning All Blacks team. In 2012 he
is set to play a more senior role in the pack now that Brad Thorn
has retired.
