Richie McCaw is widely considered as the best openside flanker in world rugby and arguably the most influential member of the All Blacks squad. McCaw is a menace at the breakdown with an uncanny sense of timing - he effectively pioneered the modern day turnover. He was a straight forward choice to become All Blacks captain in 2006 and subsequently led the side through their most dominating season of the decade. He was awarded the IRB Player of the Year award in 2006 and backed-up that up by winning it again in 2009 and then, unprecedentedly, for a third time in 2010. That season he led the All Blacks to 13 out of 14 Tests and became the most capped All Black ever, breaking Sean Fitzpatrick's mark of 92 Tests with Mils Muliaina. In 2011 he became the first All Black in history to play 100 Tests in the World Cup pool match against France at Eden Park and capped it off by lifting aloft the Web Ellis Cup to end New Zealand's 24 year drought.
