Jerome Kaino is a powerful loose-forward who is punishing in defence and mobile for his size. He is equally adept as a number eight or blindside flanker and strong option in a lineout situation. Jerry Collins departure from New Zealand rugby, at the end of 2007, opened up the door for Kanio to cement the All Blacks number six jersey and in 2010 he finally fended of the challenges of Adam Thomson, Liam Messan and Victor Vito in a string of damaging displays.
