Ali Williams has matured over the years from a
prodigiously-talented problem child to a senior leader of the All
Blacks pack. A graduate of Kings College, Williams burst onto the
scene for Auckland as a mobile, skillful lock with a
no-holds-barred attitude. Williams has occasionally been criticised
for indiscipline but has learned to control his aggression and
combine hard-graft with his dangerous ball-running skills, coming
of age during an outstanding 2005 Lions series. Since 2009 he has
been hampered by a series of Achilles injuries that threatened to
end his career. He emerged from this dark period of his career to a
member of the 2011 World Cup winning All Blacks squad and despite
form issues was once again selected in 2012.
