A German athlete at the Winter Olympics had to make a trip to the dentist when he broke his tooth biting into his silver medal.

Luger David Moeller says he broke off a corner of his front tooth when the photographers asked the medal winners to bite into their prizes.

Moeller told Germany's Bild newspaper it didn't hurt.

"But it is annoying when you can't smile as you normally do. And because I want to have nice pictures and happy memories of my Olympic Games, I went to the dentist to get it repaired," he says.
