2010 World Cup qualifying campaign:
Slovenia were a surprise qualifer after drawing a group that included Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. After placing second behind Slovakia, Slovenia advanced to a two leg play off against Russia. Russia won the first game 2-1, but Slovenia took the second 1-0 and advanced on aggregate. 

World Cup history:
2010 South Africa will be Slovenia's second appearance as an independent nation

Korea/Japan (2002) Slovenia placed last in their Group (behind Spain, Paraguay and South Africa) and failed to progress to the second round

As part of Yugoslavia (prior to 1991): Yugoslavia appeared at 8 World Cups - most recently at Italia 1990 where they reached the quarter finals, but lost to Argentina. Yugoslavia's highest place was reaching the Semi Finals in 1962, where lost to Czechoslovakia, and finished in Fourth place behind Chile.
