2010 World Cup qualifying campaign:
Ranked top of the Oceania Group (ahead of New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu) New Zealand faced a two-legged play off against Bahrain (Asia Region) to reach just their second ever World Cup tournament.

The first match, away to Bahrain was a 0-0 draw, but New Zealand won the return leg 1-0 thanks to an inspired performance and a Rory Fallon goal to reach the tournament.
