Australia qualified early for the 2010 FIFA World Cup after beating Uzbekistan 2-0, and drawing 0-0 against Qatar.

Qualification assured the Socceroos went on to beat Bahrain 2-0 and came back from being 1 nil down against Japan to win 2-1. Japan placed second in the Group to also qualify (South Korea & North Korea topped Group 2 to also qualify from this Region.)
