He won't be there to cheer the All Whites on as they play their must win game at the Soccer World Cup in South Africa overnight, but Prime Minister John Key is convinced they can win.
Mr Key travelled to South Africa to watch them in their one-all draw with Italy earlier this week.
He will be watching the game against Paraguay from the comfort of his own couch, with son Max by his side, but his support has not dwindled.
"We all wish the All Whites all the very best, they're a tremendous side.
"Whatever happens win, lose, or draw tonight I think they've played with tremendous pride."
Paraguay was a good side but the All Whites could win, Mr Key said.
"There'll be a lot of cheering going on in our house anyway at
two in the morning."
Good luck
Mr Key said he would send coach Ricki Herbert and captain Ryan Nelsen a good luck text message.
He did not think playing in their black away strip would influence their performance.
"What I can tell you after being in the changing room just a few days ago is they ran themselves into the ground so they've given their heart and soul to this campaign."
Labour MP Trevor Mallard's bid in Parliament to have tomorrow declared a public holiday to mark the All Whites feats was red carded in 15 seconds today.
Mr Mallard sought permission to introduce his bill and for Parliament to set aside an hour to debate and pass it.
Under the rules, an objection from any MP is enough to block the procedure, and there were plenty of them from the government benches.
Mr Mallard wanted a public holiday to mark the All White's match against Paraguay and previously suggested a lot of people would be off work anyway after staying up to watch it.
Asked about the bill, Mr Key joked "if they win the World Cup maybe".
